Hans Henken is an Olympic medalist and professional sailor from San Clemente, California. He began sailing at six years old and has since established himself as one of the most talented and innovative sailors of his generation.
He represented Team USA at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, winning a bronze medal in the Men’s Skiff—the first U.S. Olympic sailing medal since 2016 and the first U.S. medal in the Men’s Skiff since 2000. He previously won gold at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games and was named the 2024 U.S. Rolex Yachtsman of the Year, the sport’s most prestigious individual honor in the United States.
Henken is a five-time National Champion, four-time North American Champion, Youth World Championship medalist and Under-23 World Champion.
At Stanford University, Henken captained the varsity sailing team and was named Male Athlete of the Year in 2015. While competing for the Cardinal, he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Aeronautics and Astronautics, combining elite athletics with an engineering education that has become an integral part of his professional career.
Today, Henken competes with the U.S. SailGP Team in the Rolex SailGP Championship and American Racing Challenge Team USA in the America’s Cup. He draws on his sailing and engineering backgrounds while racing some of the fastest foiling boats in the world, where technology, athleticism and the ocean converge at extraordinary speeds.
After more than two decades spent competing and working on the water, Henken has developed a deep connection to the ocean and the places it has taken him. The ocean is not simply where he competes—it is where he works, explores and spends much of his life. That connection has made ocean conservation a natural extension of his life as a sailor and is what drives his commitment to protecting the places where he plays.
